Uninstalling iTunes Causes CD/DVD-ROM Drive to Stop Being Recognized in Windows

I uninstalled iTunes today in favor of Songbird. When I uninstalled it however, my DVD+RW drive stopped being recognized by Windows Vista. It was unlikely to be a hardware failure (dead drive), because my virtual CloneCD drive stopped working as well.

The exact error Windows Device Manager was reporting was:

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

To fix this, I went to Microsoft's site and downloaded this Microsoft Fix It utility which fixed the problem (link below).

In additon to this, if you have a Dell with a DVD+RW Drive model TSST TS-L632H slim 8x DVD+/-RW (shows up as TSSTcorp TS-L632H ATA in the device manager), you may wish to download an updated firmware for the device on this page if it is out of date. Supposedly this resolves the issue of not being able to burn a CD in iTunes.
